A two day event! The mission of the International Playwright Festival is to recognize the work of emerging and established playwrights and to build a link between playwrights, the theatre community and our audiences. The festival is a celebration of new works by playwrights from across the country and around the globe.
IT'S ALL ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS
- Leila's got a problem: her ex-husband has cut her son from her first marriage out of his Will which means that her son, Ethan, gets nothing from the successful health care business she and her ex-husband built together. Ethan doesn't know this even though he's working in the company. Ethan has recently married Madge, they hope to start a family, but his mother knows sooner than later Ethan will have to deal with the facts that his step-father never liked him and is leaving Ethan nothing. What will this mother do?
- Born in New York City, Fred Gordon is a member of The Ensemble Studio Theatre both in NY and Los Angeles. His plays have been produced in New York, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Syracuse, etc. Fred's published novels include BENJAMIN GRABBED HIS GLICKEN AND RAN and BLOOD NEVER DRIES. He is a recipient of a PEN Grant Award, an Edward F. Albee Fellow (3 summers), a graduate of UC Berkeley, and has an MFA in film from Columbia University.
- Two teenagers break into a classroom at night searching for tomorrow's exam. Their misadventure brings up questions of humanity, dysfunctional families, history, and privilege as they consider two very different meanings of a poem.
- John Patrick Bray (PhD, MFA) teaches dramatic writing at UGA, has been a Semifinalist for the O'Neill National Playwrights Conference and the Princess Grace Foundation Playwriting Award; and winner of the Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights. - A man visiting his wife in prison brings news of his future plans, forcing them both to confront their past while attempting to navigate their unexpected circumstances.
- Jackie Martin is an educator, actor, and playwright living with her husband and two children in Norwood, Massachusetts. Her plays include Hallmark Doesn't Make Cards for Us and Goodbye, Denny Jacobs. Her work has previously been produced by Open Theatre Project, Old Library Theatre, and Firehouse Center for the Arts, where she was awarded the Peter Honegger Prizes for Best One Act and Best Short Play in 2019.
- When her refrigerator breaks the night before her boyfriend and his kids are coming for Thanksgiving dinner, Lisa calls a repair hotline. Both her turkey and her love life are in jeopardy and the man on the line inspires little confidence - but proves to be exactly the troubleshooter she needs.
- Loretta Bolger Wish has written plays, monologues, essays, songs, a film blog and the novel Bumpy Night on the Walk of Fame. A former journalist, she lives at the Jersey shore. She's currently a freelance writer/editor, plays guitar in a classic rock band and moderates a writing group in Princeton.
- When two mothers meet in a prison property room while waiting to pick up their son's possessions, they attempt to come to terms with the suffering their children have caused in their lives.
- Thomas C. Dunn is a Los Angeles based writer. His film work includes writing/directing the narrative features, "The Perfect Witness"and "The Body Tree". Screenplays include "Assassin Club,"(shooting January 2020) "Play," and "Stevie". As a playwright, he's a winner of Samuel French's Short Play Festival and his work has been presented worldwide.
- A chance encounter between two lost strangers on the corner of Magnolia and Pine in Chamblee, Georgia helps them find their way.
- Bara Swain's plays have been staged in 120+ venues in 25 states and abroad. Recent: I LOVE LUCY! and TURN! TURN! TURN! (Tom Mann Theatre, Sydney); Responsible (Theatre Dubai, UAE); Choose (Summer Shorts, KY); and Pandemonium (Open Fist Theatre, LA). - Leslie's feet are still icy cold by the time she's hitched a ride with Willa. Having left her man at the altar, Leslie is soon challenged by the realities of her poorly thought out plan and soon will have a big decision to make - turn around to fix her mistake, or head west to wipe the slate clean.
- Michael Weems is a Houston based playwright and recent graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (MFA in Playwriting). He is a board member for Cone Man Running Productions and a member of the Dramatists Guild of America. www.playsofweems.com
- Myrtle and Clarice plan an afternoon of theatre but Myrtle has more on her mind than the play and when her loud talking provokes the intervention of a Woman who "just wants to watch the show" things escalate until the real drama is no longer on the stage but in the audience.
- William Whitehurst's award-winning work has been produced in Europe, the UK and the US, including Belgrade, Edinburgh, London, New York and Los Angeles. He holds MFAs in theatre and dramatic writing from Florida International University and the University of Southern California. He is a co-founder of Second Skin Theatre. He currently teaches history, English and drama at the French International School of Hong Kong.
