GREASE dir. Randal Kleiser, 1978. Cast: John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing, Jeff Conaway. Format: Digital Projection. 110 minutes. PG.
It’s the summer of 1958 and greaser Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and goody two-shoes Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) meet on a beach vacation and fall in love, thinking they’d never see each other again with Sandy poised to return to Australia. But a twist of fate has other plans, and Sandy’s parents move to America, and she is unknowingly enrolled at the same high school as Danny. Her new friends re-introduce them, but Danny acts differently than he did during their summer fling. Will the two be able to reconcile their differences? Will Danny get Greased Lightning across the finish line? Will you be able to keep from singing along to super catchy songs? Released in the summer of 1978, GREASE became the highest-grossing musical film ever at the time, with its soundtrack becoming the second best-selling album of the year in the United States (behind SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER which also starred Travolta).
