A koala, Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) inherits a struggling theater that is threatened with foreclosure by the bank. To save the theater he decides to hold a singing competition with a prize of $1,000. One typo, an open window, and an unwatched fan later and the town is abuzz with the news of a singing competition with a life-changing prize of $100,000! The contestants include pig with a dream Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), punk rocking porcupine Ash (Scarlett Johansson), teenage gorilla Johnny (Taron Egerton) who is stifled by family pressure, and Mike (Seth MacFarlane) a mouse with a big voice and an even bigger attitude.
